On the national level...

Even amid uncertainty, we'll be looking for opportunities to find common ground and advance policies that protect the Mississippi River. (Photo by David Wheaton for FMR)
There's a lot happening in D.C. The president has renamed the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. (Our first response? If the gulf is a point of national pride, let's pass the Mississippi River Restoration and Resilience Initiative Act and take care of it.) The U.S. government may repeal lead and TCE limits for water, along with other protections and climate advancements. And the threatened federal funding freeze or review could directly impact FMR's work on conservation, clean-water crop advancement, the future of locks and dams and more.
FMR is grateful to be a part of the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, One Mississippi and other groups collectively tracking, navigating and responding to the executive orders. Thank you to everyone who continues to advocate for clean water, the river and the communities it supports — as an FMR River Guardian and with other worthy organizations.
